Most elegant historic restaurant in Durango – The Palace Restaurant
The Palace Restaurant, located next to the Durango Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad Depot in Durango, is the most elegant historic restaurant in Durango — a local favorite for special occasions, as well as casual dining. The main dining room is lovely enough for a special evening out; the Quiet Lady Tavern is fun for happy hour or a quick bite to eat; and the shady outdoor patio surrounded by flowering plants is a relaxing venue for cocktails, lunch, or dinner in summer weather.
Elegant 19th century Western architecture and design
The Palace Restaurant is located in the original historic Palace Hotel, built in the late 1800s, and it has retained the elegant character of the period’s Western architecture and design. The neighboring view of the narrow gauge trains will entertain young and old alike. In the winter, you may enjoy a cozy meal by the fireplace.
There’s a small parlor right off the bar area in the Quiet Lady Tavern that makes a cozy spot for you and a few of your friends to enjoy happy hour special drinks and appetizers in relative privacy. The Palace offers a respectable wine list and a wide beverage selection that includes a very tasty Bloody Mary and local brews on tap.
Most elegant historic restaurant in Durango – and good food!
The menu changes with the seasons, but some of the most consistently recommended dishes are always available. For appetizers, I like the Mediterranean Platter and the Baked Brie with fruit. In addition to well-prepared steaks and seafood, regular local diners like to order PJ’s Salmon Pasta, Spinach and Artichoke Raviolis, and the Chicken and Dumplings.
Homemade desserts are popular items at The Palace Restaurant in Durango, and they include Key Lime Pie, Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie, Crème Brulee, and Berry Crumble.
Make reservations for dinner at The Palace Restaurant in Durango
You should know that Happy Hour and Monday Burger Nights can be quite busy. And the service can be “leisurely” – especially in the summer when the trains are returning from Silverton. Reservations are highly recommended – especially during these peak times.
Although this is the most elegant historic restaurant in Durango, The Palace is pretty laid back. You’ll feel comfortable taking your whole family to dinner here.
