Best casual dining and views in Albuquerque – at Sandiago’s

Known for the best casual dining and views in Albuquerque, and situated at the base of the Tramway, Sandiago’s Mexican Grill is sure to be a tourist trap, right? But surprisingly, it isn’t. Locals and tourists alike enjoy the tasty regional Mexican and New Mexican cuisine and oversized margaritas served at this fun and festive restaurant.
Eat outside and enjoy breathtaking views
If weather permits, get a table outside on the patio. These tables are first come, first served, but don’t be too disappointed if you have to sit inside – the views are spectacular from inside too! Sandiago’s Mexican Grill has more than earned their reputation for the best casual dining and views in Albuquerque. Watch the Tramway make its way up the mountainside or gaze at the Jemez Mountains and the city of Albuquerque. The desert sunsets are particularly breathtaking from Sandiago’s Mexican Grill.
Signature margaritas, and the best casual dining and views in Albuquerque
The décor is vibrant and colorful – the bar looks like a beach hut and I thought the waiter’s Hawaiian shirt was a nice touch. While you watch the sun set over Albuquerque, I recommend indulging in one of Sandiago’s signature margaritas – the creamy and rich coconut margarita, or the refreshing blood orange margarita on the rocks. The Silver Coin margarita is pretty good, but too tart, in my opinion. Mexican beers are also available.

The chips and pico de gallo are made fresh daily, and the guacamole is fresh and piquant. I particularly like the fish tacos – tempura-battered fish with cabbage slaw, cheese, sour cream, guacamole, and pico de gallo on a corn or flour tortilla. (I substitute grilled mahi mahi for the battered fish.) The generous Tres Queso Relleno is filled with jack, cotija and goat cheese, breaded in chips, and served with red or green chile. I order the green rice whenever I can – it’s flavored with poblano peppers and cilantro and complements the beef and seafood dishes well.
Maybe a little bit touristy
You should know that if you ride the Tram before you eat, you’ll get a $5 discount on your meal, and that Sandiago’s Mexican Grill in Albuquerque sells sweatshirts, hats, and mugs. (OK, so it’s a tiny bit touristy, after all.) But I am not kidding about the views – Sandiago’s Mexican Grill offers the best casual dining and views in Albuquerque. Don’t miss it!
